People Data
People have data entered about them and are submitted to the SharedTree. Users may submit the following information on people:
- SSN
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Maiden name
- Mother's maiden name
- Names of children
- Names of parents
- Names of spouses
Please read the page on Security for details on who can view this information.
All of this data is used for genealogical purposes only. We may decide to offer programs to users who opt-in based on this information including family announcements or medical invitations based on genes.

User Data
Users personally register in order to make changes to data on SharedTree. We collect the following information on users.
- Email address
- you need this to login
- we need this to send you notifications of changes to watched pages
- we need this to send you periodic updates to your family line (FUTURE)
- we want this to send you a general email no more than once per year
- First and last name
- you need this to remember your own account
- your relatives need this to know who you are
- other users want this to see who is making changes
- Mailing address
- other users want to see your city and state
- your relatives may use (FUTURE) your address to facilitate family reunions and other family related correspondence
