Importing data from other computer systems is a crucial component to SharedTree. It's also a great way to get started with your tree. See also Exporting Data.

Before Importing

Before you start importing your entire genealogy file, you should start first by searching for your ancestors. Check your grandparents or even great-grandparents if you know them. If you import a lot of duplicate names you'll have a long and possibly unnecessary merge activity waiting for you after you import your files.

Instead of importing all your names, try finding those lines that don't yet exist in SharedTree and only import those.
