Group Guidelines
From SharedTree Wiki
Groups are a way for SharedTree users to assign individuals to events in history or political or religious events. These assignments can then be used to facilitate research and can even show up on reports or charts.
Throughout history, a wide variety of groups of individuals have existed. Sometimes these groups are based on political, religious, or regional events. Groups like these are interesting to genealogists from the perspective of their historical documents as well as interesting to descendents interested in their "famous" heritage.
To make filtering easier, groups should have a start year and a stop year as well as a group type. A description field is available for each group to describe the group as well as include links or other resources for learning more about that group. If the group has a link to Wikipedia, you should include it. (If it doesn't have a Wikipedia article, you should reconsider creating the group.)
Examples of good groups
- Presidents of the United States
- English Medieval Kings
- Old Testament Characters
- World War II Veterans
- Mormon Pioneers
- US Civil War Veterans
- Mayflower Passengers
Do NOT Create Groups for the Following
- occupations - such as farmer or doctor
- religious affiliation - such as Catholic or Mormon
- gender - male or female
- hobbies
- surname - the Smith family
- descendents of a common ancestor - Descendents of Thomas Jefferson
